Let’s all take a collective deep breath… inhale… exhale… because friends, we made it. Welcome to June, a month that feels like a cool glass of lemonade after sprinting a marathon in flip-flops.

I recently came across a publication dubbing the month of May as “Maycember.” You know, a hectic and chaotic month filled with celebration and sprinkled with joy just like the month of December. Basically, December with less peppermint and more pollen.  For parents and grandparents alike, May is filled with end of year celebrations, family gatherings, playoff events, school concerts, and on and on and on. May is wild. But here’s the good news: if you’re reading this, you survived. Gold star for you. Or maybe a nap. Definitely a nap.

Despite the hustle and bustle, May is one of my favorite months.  I just wrapped up my x semester at Dean College and on May 10th I had the privilege of attending and broadcasting the Commencement Ceremony for the class of 2025.  Wrapping up another semester and saying goodbye to the seniors is always bitter sweet, but I enjoy turning the page and taking a break from teaching in the summer months.

This summer, I have two goals. Well three, is you count “stay out of Barbara’s hair.”

Goal #1: Revamp the Purple Turtle Productions Website.

My first is to revamp the Purple Turtle Productions website and reconnect with some of my amazing clients (hence this blog post).  The new website is live, it’s spunky, and it’s getting a facelift as we speak.  I’d love your thoughts! Seriously — check it out, poke around, and let me know what you think. Bonus points if you send a testimonial.

Goal #2: Dive back into The Boatbuilders Docuseries.

My second goal this summer is to refocus on my passion project – The Boatbuilders Docuseries.  For those of you who don’t know, my colleague and I wrapped up our first episode of The BoatBuilders last summer.  The Boatbuilders is a documentary series discovering the legacy and present-day impact of the boatbuilding community in the northeastern United States.  In October, we premiered at the Jane Pickens Theater in Downtown Newport with the help of event co-sponsors IYRS School of Technology and Trades.  Huge thanks to everyone who came out and supported us — you made it unforgettable.

We’re now seeking funding for Episode 2 and dreaming of bringing Episode 1 to a local station near you. More on that in next month’s blog (same boat time, same boat channel).

Until then, thank you for reading, for cheering us on, and for surviving Maycember with grace (or at least semi-clean laundry). Bring on boat season — and don’t forget sunscreen.

Catch you on the Dock,

Gregg
